Our biggest fundraising effort starts now.

“IT TAKES A VILLAGE” is just the start of one of the most impactful capital campaigns that the Dr. Margaret Wade-Lewis History and Cultural Center will run. It’s where it all begins, where everyone in our village can be a part of preserving living history and it starts NOW!

In 2024, the historic Ann-Oliver House is a beautiful example of a 139-year-old artifact of Black History that can be repurposed, renovated and celebrated as a part of American History. The Ann-Oliver House was built in 1885 and is in need of love in order for it to become a cultural center that celebrates the achievements of Black individuals throughout history.

Raising 2.5 million dollars for this project won’t be easy and we know we need you, we need our village to make it happen right here in the Hudson Valley. The MWL Center is fortunate enough to have been able to start this journey in a village like New Paltz that understands how vital it is to preserve precious artifacts like the Ann-Oliver House in New York State. The goal of “It takes a village” campaign is to renovate the Ann-Oliver House and have it become an inclusive environment that fosters education and understanding for black history for everyone.

Your donations will help us preserve and share this rich cultural heritage with future generations. Thank you for helping us build a place where everyone can come together to learn, grow, and honor the legacy of Black history in our village.
