About the Event
June 19, 1865 marks the effective end of the slavey when people of African descent in the state of Texas were proclaimed Free. The following year Texans of African descent commemorated June 19 as Jubilee Day. Juneteenth became the National Independence Day, a federal holiday, in 2021.
Join us on Sunday, June 18th and Monday, June 19th for the third-annual New Paltz Juneteenth Jubilee. The celebration is growing exponentially! Partners include: Center for Creative Education, Kinston; Elting Memorial Library; Historic Huguenot Street; Margaret Wade-Lewis Black History and Cultural Center; Master’s Touch Ministries; New Paltz Rural Cemetery; NewPaltz United Methodist Church; SUNY Department of Black Studies; Unison Arts; and the Village of New Paltz are teaming up for a Juneteenth Jubilee!
